Collocation is best described as the way words combine together in predictable ways. These word combinations are sometimes called ‘lexical chunks’ and knowing what they are, and how to use them is critical to communicative competence.
Language teachers are all too familiar with those tricky questions students ask, such as ‘Teacher, why can’t I say that? It’s correct, isn’t it?’ An utterance or a sentence may follow the rules and be grammatically correct but be unacceptable to the listener or reader because the words chosen simply do not typically collocate well.
Without collocational competence our learners will struggle to have communicative proficiency.
In this webinar we're going to share some ideas and activities for exploring collocation in the classroom and developing an appreciation of collocation among learners.
This webinar will suit Language Teachers and CLIL Teachers in secondary school.
Ogni partecipante correttamente registrato riceverà per ciascun webinar un attestato di partecipazione rilasciato da Heritage Study Tours, Ente di Formazione accreditato dal MIUR, in collaborazione con ATC Language Schools.
